Gabe and I did the dishes once we had all eaten. Jacob waited patiently in the living room. I sighed as I dried my hands.
"Come on." Gabe said, holding his hand out to me.
I didn't take it and walked past him.
"I know you want an explanation," I immediately began once I was in Jacob's sight. "but frankly, there's no way you could believe us until I show you something."
Jacob looked around curiously. "Show me what?" he said slowly.
"Come here." I said now holding my hand out to him as I stood in the middle of the room.
His expression said he thought I was crazy, which I expected and was fine, but he still came forward and stood in front of me.
"Take my hand." I said closing my eyes. I felt his energy next to me, but I couldn't read anything distinct from it, but I knew that he'd hesitate.
I felt Gabe nearby too, at the ready should he need to intercede.
Jacobs hand slipped into mine and I wasn't bothered by his touch.
Then I opened my eyes.
The room that was previously appeared empty except for the three of us to Jacob was now crammed full of Temperos. They were concentrated around Jacob some seeming to touch him gently.
Jacob stumbled back out of my hand. I watched him a moment, still Looking, so that he could see my eyes. Once he looked at me I closed them. My sight was normal again as he fell onto the couch.
"What the hell was that?!" he hollered, his eyes wide and a little wild.
"Demons, The Fallen, Satan's Third, those who tempt mankind," I breathed, and glanced at Gabriel, he had his arms folded, and was relaxed, all was still well then. "But to keep it simple we just call them Temperos."
Gabriel suddenly seemed annoyed beside me.
"How are they?" I asked.
"Confused, but none the wiser." They must have been making quite a ruckus, I would help him feel better in a while.
I nodded.
"They're confused? I'm confused!" Jacob nearly squealed from the sofa, staring at the floor, sweat on his forehead.
I turned back to him and sat next to him again. "What's confusing you?"
"The Fallen, Satan's Third-All of it!" he was looking worse by the second, I was starting to feel like this was a bad idea.
"Do you know anything about religion?"
At this he chuckled. "Yeah, right." He rubbed his mouth.
"Okay." I sat back. "Saint Gabriel de Morte the Third," I used the angel's full name so that he'd act his part instead of blending in. "You should take it from here."
Jacob looked between us, "Why?" he sounded disappointed.
"He's the only one here that can still remember it."
"Remember what?"
"The Beginning." Gabriel's voice filled the whole room and he was every inch the angel his name claimed he was. As loud as his voice was I knew it did not reach ears outside of this room. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
